We love the Dezeen Blog! Watch a time-lapse movie showing Matthias Pliessnig wrapping a Thonet chair in steam-bent white oak – The chair vanishes inside a swirled nest.
50 years ago The Whitechapel Gallery hosted Mark Rothko’s first solo exhibition in Britain. The current exhibition, ‘Rothko in Britain’, displays photos of visitors from 1961 and their memoirs describing these groundbreaking abstract paintings. Rothkos large canvases, with luminous rectangles of colour, initiate powerful responses from visitors, both then and now; get yourselves along to see for yourselves!
The exhibition runs from 9th September 2011 – 26th February 2012.

Sarah Raven stocks a wide range of dahlias and her website has a useful guide to planting dahlia tubers. In late summer they make an excellent cut flower, as shown in the last photograph.

We love this blog! The brainchild of Taylor Jones, this blog allows people to share a new photo of an old photo – holding up the old photo to visually align it to the same background in the modern day. Photos are submitted with a short message. The result is a fascinating selection of trips down memory lane…
