Garden studio building
Westgreen Construction ltd asked us to manufacture and supply external shutters for a garden studio building. During our meetings with the architects and the quantity surveyor we were able to issue drawings with details of their requirements. The shutters were to be made of western Red Cedar, a robust wood suitable for outdoor use.
Operating on concertina sliding tracks in conjunction with the internal sliding doors of the studio, the shutters would be an integral part of the building and garden. We also fitted fixed panels to a window and door which pivot open, a really good solution for awkward openings.
The client specified the rail and stile profiles of each shutter; all were over-sized and non-standard. The blades were to be our rebated Soho range utilising the hidden internal tilting mechanism. Special handles and hinges were sourced; these were to be functional whilst being as discreet as possible.
The use of Soho blades combined with the beautiful Cedar timber really enhanced the calm, creative garden space and the end result is a set of bespoke joinery-made shutters that not only meet the client’s needs but are both aesthetically pleasing and practical.
